Falling In Love With Women's Footy

How good is it that we're regularly reading articles about Chloe Molloy & Izzy Huntington! 2 years ago I knew very little about women's footy, I couldn't even tell you one single player! As a Western Bulldogs supporter I am fortunate that my club & Melbourne FC were proactive in getting behind the push to promote women's footy, also think Susan Alberti might have been a tad influential. Consequently I started to watch these exhibition games & found I thoroughly enjoyed watching these women. Sure, they didn't kick as far as the men, but they displayed the skills & courage that make our game great. Roll onto the draft in 2016 & I listened to every name called out, gutted when my favourite player became a Magpie. Not only did she go to Collingwood, she captained them; congratulations on that Steph! As well as having heroes like the Bont, Dale Morris & Jake Stringer, I now had other heroes to watch, Katie Brennan, Ellie B...

Naomi Ferres - The Quiet Achiever!

Just after Naomi Ferres was rookied by the Western Bulldogs we spoke about what she hoped to achieve this AFLW season. We then spoke after the season to see just how things actually panned out. BW Hey Nai, congratulations on being rookied last Friday. NF Thank you. BW Now, we've known each other, what, about 10 years?  NF Yeah, I think so. BW (Naomi & my son Ryan played their junior footy & cricket together at Werribee Centrals).  BW I know you've grown up & still live in Werribee with Mum, Dad & your younger sister. Fair to say they're your biggest fans? I don't reckon I've seen you play without them being there. NF Yeah, there's always at least one of them there, which is good having that support on the sidelines. BW What are some of your memories of those days at Werribee Centrals? NF It was quite physical playing against the boys. BW So, when did you stop playing against the boys? NF I could...

Ash Riddell - Redemption!

Last year I was fortunate enough to watch Diamond Creek a bit in the VFLW. The team already had many established AFLW players but there were young guns coming through such as Chloe Molloy, Ash Riddell & Reni Hicks who were hopeful  of being drafted. Sadly, Ash Riddell was overlooked, this despite being named in the VFLW Team of the Year! I was & still am shocked. Fast forward 8 months & things have changed significantly for Ash. A new club in Melbourne  University where she's reunited with Creeker's coach from last season, Scott Gowans. Named captain & now its been announced that she's been signed by new AFLW club  North Melbourne & I couldn't  be happier for her!  After last season's draft I spoke  with Ash about her disappointment.  Here's her story:  BW Firstly Ash, thank you so much for agreeing to talk to me. I understand it's probably difficult for you right now, but I really do apprec...
